Self-driving

How long to allow
Between pickup, the homestead walk, the boma performance, dinner and the return drive, plan for most of an afternoon and evening rather than a quick stop. It isn't the kind of visit you can slot into a couple of spare hours between other plans. Booking anything else — a dinner reservation back in the city, a late flight — on the same evening is worth avoiding; treat the whole evening as spoken for once you've booked it.
What to bring and wear
Comfortable, flat shoes make the walk between homesteads easier, and a layer for after dark is worth packing — the Highveld cools quickly once the sun goes down, even after a warm afternoon. Cameras and phones are generally fine for photos of the homesteads and the performance.
Combining with the Cradle of Humankind
Because Lesedi sits inside the Cradle of Humankind, some visitors combine it with a daytime visit to the area's fossil sites on the same trip, on a separate day rather than the same afternoon — the evening programme at Lesedi is a full commitment on its own.
If you're coming from Pretoria
Lesedi is also workable as a day trip from Pretoria, which sits closer to the Cradle of Humankind than central Johannesburg does — if you're staying in Pretoria, ask when you book whether pickup covers your area, since the GetYourGuide package is framed around Johannesburg pickups.
